REFLECTION
<back to top>

-Experience:
Typography class was a very pleasant experience for me. Although it's difficult and time consuming at first, as I got used to the techniques and theories, I felt the difference. I experienced shorter working time, and easier method of creating things at Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Indesign. I never felt typography as a something special. But through this learning, I was exposed with different things that I never known before, and it's very surprising and it felt special for me. To be honest, the earlier time when I get to know typography, I struggled a lot as I don't know what's the objective of it. As time went on, I find it very enjoyable and this "simple-looking" thing can actually express lots of things.

Some task may be finished under a day, but it's actually divided to some days around the weeks. The time written there also exclude watching lectures. I found out that the tasks weren't actually lots of time consuming for me, as I progressed, I understand better the Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Indesign interface, which save lots of time. The most time consuming things are actually the video to be honest. It's so overwhelming especially in Task 1, where some of us are actually just adapt to new about things. It really requires a great time management.

-Observation:
By doing the task, especially when I was taught about the anatomy, I started to be able to observe typefaces characteristics easily. I noticed that actually countless typefaces have their own uniqueness and it's very amazing to know that. This module haver really made me crazy. I get more sensitive to typographies on the internet. Sometimes the kerning is so messy, sometimes the readabilty is bad and it's so frustrating and annoying at the same time to see something like that :(

-Finding:
In the end I found out that typographies actually hold lots of surprise. Typography is actually not a difficult subject to learn, but the rules made it seems so difficult to understand. I found out typography isn't a boring things, it can be something that exciting, for example, making stickers, making typeface, expressing types, etc. It's not just for a formal purpose. Typography also requires typographer to be very patient and very observative. I also found out that actually when we put our heart in doing this task, it'll spark excitement which can make things more enjoyable.
