fig 1.1, Week 4 lecture, Week 4 (27/01/2022)

They are affected by:
  1. Demand Side
  2. Supply Side
fig 1.2, Week 4 lecture, Week 4 (27/01/2022)

Examples:
  1. Donald Trump faked having Covid-19 in order to win sympathy votes
  2. Joe Biden is mentally impaired
  3. Dr. Anthony Fauci funded a lab in Wuhan to develop the coronavirus
  4. If reelected, Donald Trump planned to eliminate social security and Medicare
  5. Kamala Harris was not born in United States
  6. CDC manipulated numbers to exaggerate number of dead from Covid-19
  7. President Trump went to the hospital last year after suffering a stroke
  8. Vote counting machines overcounted the Biden vote
Lots of misinformation cases caused a very crucial impact. For example; Assault in Capitol, Increasing deaths of COVID, etc.

How to fix it?
Always double check any informations.

FLIP Topic

TOPIC 3: MILLER'S LAW (CHUNKING)

Week 3
(20/01/2022):
Ms. Anis introduced us to FLIP topic 3: Miller's Law (Chunking), and the groups tasked for this topic. We were briefed on Miller's Law: Chunking. Shortly, chunking is a method to chunk big information to a smaller information were people can understand and memorize it better. In the end of the topic, Ms. Anis showed us this video:
fig. 3.1, LATCH example, Week 3 (20/01/2022)

Week 4
(25/01/2022):
In this section of class, we were played some presentation videos by Group 4, 5, and 6, about Miller's Law Chunking. This is my group works:

TOPIC 4: MANUEL LIMA'S 9 DIRECTIVES MANIFESTO

Ms. Anis then tasked the next group about their topic; Manuel Lima's 9 Directives Manifesto. In general, the 9 directives are:
  1. Form Follows Function: “the purpose should always be centered on the explanation, which in turn leads to insight.” Start with a Question: Your work should always be driven by a query
  2. Interactivity is Key: allows for investigation and learning through discovery
  3. Cite Your Source: always disclose where your data originated
  4. The Power of Narrative: Humans love stories
  5. Do Not Glorify Aesthetics: “should always be a consequence and never a goal”
  6. Look for Relevancy: why are you visualizing the information?
  7. Embrace Time: Time is difficult to work with but rich
  8. Aspire for Knowledge: “A core ability of Information Visualization is to translate information into knowledge. It’s also to facilitate understanding and aid cognition.”
  9. Avoid Gratuitous Visualizations: “should respond as a cognitive filter, an empowered lens of insight, and should never add more noise to the flow”

PROJECT 1 : Pasta Grannies Infographic Poster

RESEARCH
PHASE 1: DECIDING GRANDMA/GRANDPA
Since I have some time to watch YouTube videos, I decided to explore the Pasta Grannies. I'm interested with these 3 videos:
fig. 4.1, Tiramisu, Week 2 (12/01/2022)
fig. 4.2, Sicilian Ravioli, Week 2 (12/01/2022)
fig. 4.3, Ravioli, Week 2 (12/01/2022)

Then I decided to go make Tiramisu because it somehow resembled me to my past favorite game; Resortopia, and I'm also a dessert fan.

PHASE 2: BREAKDOWN INFORMATIONS AND IDEAS
*all images posted are sourced from Pasta Grannies, https://youtu.be/GRmcBeXd_Ng

This is Mala, the Granny I chose.
fig. 4.5, Granny Mala, Week 3 (20/01/2022)

The beautiful lady worked in a Treviso's train station for 45 years and has a speciality of making Tiramisu, and here's her secret recipe I breakdown:

INGREDIENTS:
fig. 4.6, Ingredients, Week 3 (20/01/2022)
  • Cocoa Powder
  • LadyFinger Biscuit
  • 6 Eggs
  • Salt
  • 500 gram of Mascarpone
  • 2 tbsp Sambuca
  • Hot Coffee
STEPS:
fig. 4.7, breakdown, Week 3 (20/01/2022)

Then, I breakdown it again and made my moodboard:
fig. 4.8, breakdown and moodboard, Week 4 (25/01/2022)

I actually have some ideas in mind, inspired form these digital infographics:

PHASE 3: EXECUTION

Thus, I started to make the sketch. I got 3 sketches from the idea inspiration:
fig. 4.12-14, sketches, Week 4 (27/01/2022)

I asked Ms. Anis for her feedbacks on my sketches, which one should I go with, Ms. Anis recommended me to go with the third one since it also illustrated the granny.

The first thing I do was remaking the granny. I want to show her bright and positive face, so I made this:
fig 4.15, Granny, Week 5 (01/02/2022)

I explored some color palettes in Adobe Color. I thought of making a non vibrant color, with some vintage vibes through it. Thus, I found these colors:

TYPEFACES CREDITS:
EXERCISE : VECTOR - CHARACTER ANIMATION

On week 4, Mr. Martin gave us task to animate some assets for motion graphic exercise. So, this is the part I got:
fig 4.23, exercise part A, Week 6 (10/02/2022)

I made it on Week 6 because I wanted to finish my other tasks first. First, I started to divide all the assets I wanted to animate in Illustrator:
fig 4.24, exercise part A. ai, Week 6 (10/02/2022)

So then, I imported all the files in After Effects:
fig 4.25, exercise part A. aep, Week 6 (10/02/2022)

I did some simple animations, the plants, hands, cat tail, coffee steam, the clock, and also the text. Here's how it looked like:

PROJECT 2 : Animated Infographic
PHASE 1: CONCEPTING

I started to re-study the color palette of my granny. I want to focus on the table color as the background of my animated infographic.

So, this is the table that Granny Mala's used to make the tiramisu:
fig 4.27, table, source; https://youtu.be/GRmcBeXd_Ng, Week 6 (11/02/2022)

From the previous color palette; I planned to use either the first (top left) or the fifth (top right)
fig 4.28-29, color palette, source; https://youtu.be/GRmcBeXd_Ng, Week 6 (11/02/2022)

Besides table as the main background, I planned to used another variation of things that are in the tutorial video. So, I did some environmental analysis from Granny's Mala's video. I found out that there're another option to use as a variety of the background:
  • The Floor:
fig 4.30, table, source; https://youtu.be/GRmcBeXd_Ng, Week 6 (11/02/2022)
  • The Cloths:
fig 4.31-32, cloths, source; https://youtu.be/GRmcBeXd_Ng, Week 6 (11/02/2022)

I planned on how my animation flow will be:
fig 4.33, storyboarding sketch, Week 6 (14/02/2022)

I started to create my assets little by little until I finish them all except the title frame:
fig 4.34, ai files, Week 6 (17/02/2022)

I started to concept the title file. I planned to make the cat peeking and I want to make like a game styled concept, so here it's:
fig 4.35, ai files, Week 6 (18/02/2022)

I started to finalize my assets, also put them into sequential order:
fig 4.36, storyboarding sketch, Week 7 (19/02/2022)

After that, I began to import the files to AfterEffcet. I made them per compositions, progress:
fig 4.37, animation progresses, Week 7 (21/02/2022)

I compiled them and export into videos (without sound effects and BGM). I added BGM that I found online at Youtube. I want to try using Adobe Premier Pro:
fig 4.38, BGM, Week 7 (24/02/2022)
fig 4.39, BGM, Week 7 (24/02/2022)

After that, I add some sound effects into it, but I'm doing it in AI. It was a lot and bit challenging since the transitions are so fast:
fig 4.40, SFX progression, Week 7 (24/02/2022)
fig 4.41, SFX Progression, Week 7 (24/02/2022)

Previewing the current progress, I notice some problems, such as; quality in frame 2, some sound effects are forgotten to add. The most crucial thing is that I forgot to add the ingredient parts. So I fixed those problems and also planned on adding the birds chirp as the place ambience. So, here's my final:

FEEDBACKS

Week 4: (25/01/2022)
  • FLIP presentation:
Great job! Instead of using advantages word, you use simple words that make  people understand, and the presentation is straightforward.
  • Project 1:
The second sketch with the granny in the center is nice. Proceed making the second!

Week 6: (08/02/2022)
  • Project 1:
All well done, submit them.

REFLECTION

In this project what I learnt are specially about time management, and learning how to minimalize procrastinations. What I really want to say is that, of course, procrastinations are enjoyable. But if I addicted to it, it'll become a problem. For example, in my Project 1 I did everything as schedule, and I feel easy about it, while in my second project, I started to become lazy and procrastinate everything; a project that can be done at Week 6 but I procrastinate it to Week 7. I feel rushed a lot, especially in 1-2 days before submission date.

I also understand better in doing some Adobe Illustrator illustrations and making an animation using Adobe AfterEffects. The next skill that I learnt more is about sound effect. The right sound effects will make the video / animation less boring, because of that, I have to choose some suitable sound effects if I want to make my video more interesting.

Other than those points, I learnt about working in a tight and hectic schedule, this short semester, 2 months in total, have taught me on how to work fast, efficient, and effectively so I reached the deadlines.
