GROUP TASK : KINETIC TYPOGRAPHY
We were tasked on making a kinetic typography of a song. First, we searched for some songs:
fig. 2.2, suggestion 1, Week 2 (11/01/2022)
fig. 2.3, suggestion 1, Week 2 (11/01/2022)

But the lyrics for 1st song is too long and 2nd is a little bit inappropriate. So, we searched for another song. I remembered my favourite song back when I was little, then I recommend it to them:
fig. 2.4, suggestion 3, Week 2 (11/01/2022)

Thus, we divided into 5 parts:
fig. 2.5-6, part divisions, Week 2 (11/01/2022)

We decided our mooodboard and motion style. Our group leader, Hussain, recommended some style to choose on:
fig. 2.7, suggestion 1, Week 2 (12/01/2022)
fig. 2.8, suggestion 1, Week 2 (12/01/2022)
fig. 2.9, suggestion 1, Week 2 (12/01/2022)

We've agreed to use the first style animation, so we started to make the color scheme from some inspirations:

fig. 2.10-11, suggestion 1, Week 2 (12/01/2022)

Our typefaces: Staatliches
We did a group call to decide the overall idea. It was something like this:
fig. 2.12, suggestion 1, Week 2 (12/01/2022)

So, I started to make my part. I mostly use the motion that Mr. Martin have taught. Here's the result:

This is the final output after it have been compiled:

FINAL PROJECT

Breakdown-
WEEK 1
(04/01/2022)

Today is the first day of Information Design. We were joining groups for semester 1.5 lesson. I joined Group 4 with Hussain who's elected to be the leader, Lene, Jia Xuan, Devina, and Metta. Together, as a first step of doing the final project, we voted on which topic. We decided to go with the first topic; Your Body, because we are more familiar with that. We were actually very confused about what the task will be, because all of us are on online class.

(06/01/2022)
Then, our group leader, shared this video for reference and inspiration:
fig. 3.1, Video Inspiration, Week 1 (06/01/2022)

We discussed our preferred animation style, also the 3 most challenging scene that Metta and Jia Xuan drew. We planned to use this art style, but we think it's too hard too animate:
fig. 3.2, Art style example, Week 1 (06/01/2022)

At then of end of the discussion, we finalize our art style to be minimalistic art.
fig. 3.3, Art style compilation, Week 1 (06/01/2022)

Also these are the final sketch for the 3 most challenging scene; 1. Hair growth 2. Pregnancy symptoms 3. Mensuration:

Script Breakdown-
WEEK 3
(19/01/2022)

Our leader reminded us to do the script breakdown before tomorrow's class. These are our final script breakdown:
fig. 3.5, script breakdown, Week 3 (19/01/2022)

This is my part:
fig. 3.6, my part in script breakdown, Week 3 (19/01/2022)

Sketches and Executions-
WEEK 4
(26/01/2022)

We started to make our sketch part. These are my part based on the script breakdown:
fig. 3.7, my sketch part, Week 4 (26/01/2022)

(27/01/2022)
We were briefed to continue to make the sketches into an animation compilation.

WEEK 5
(01/02/2022)
I've finished my animation. This is my part:
fig. 3.8, animation part, Week 5 (01/02/2022)

Thus, these are the compilation:
fig. 3.9, animation part, Week 5 (01/02/2022)

(03/02/2022)
We conducted a group call to decide which color scheme we use, and finalize the specific style for our project. We came out with this conclusion:
fig. 3.8, final color palette, Week 5 (03/02/2022)

We agreed to did each of part (2 scenes) first and submit it before Monday to our group leader, Hussain. So we can discuss it before the next consultation session with Mr. Martin on Tuesday.

(04/02/2022)
I started to create the illustration for my part:
fig. 3.9, illustration, Week 5 (04/02/2022)

(05/02/2022)
Then, I started to make the animation for it. First, I added the static illustration first:
fig. 3.10, draft, Week 5 (05/02/2022)

After that, I began to make the animation for each part. I replaced some because I think it's too short and don't match the general style.

WEEK 7
(15/02/2022)
Week 7 consultation hour, our group showed some of our works to Mr. Martin, as feedbacks, Mr. Martin mentioned that we have to repair some pixelation issues, inconsistency of some illustrations, and font difference.

I started to saw my group's video once again and notice some things like:
1. Pixelation Issues:
  • Part C - Devina's part
fig. 3.12, pixelation issues (Devina's part), Week 7 (16/02/2022)
  • Part D - my part
fig. 3.13, pixelation issues (my part), Week 7 (16/02/2022)

2. Artstyle Inconsistency:
Although we had agree on following simple art style, there're still some difference in the art styles consistency. This is the art styles we refer to:

  • Part F - Metta's part

3. Font Difference:
We've agreed to either use Bangers and Londrina Solid, but Mr. Martin said there's still a big difference between each works.

  • Part C - Devina's part

  • Part D - my part

(16/02/2022)
We planned to have a meeting this night. I tried to repair my part before the meeting; I changed the font, changed the illustration in frame 11B, and repair the pixelation issues. For the typefaces, we agreed on using Bangers. So, this's my attempt on recreating the figures.
fig. 3.24, recreating the humans (my part), Week 7 (17/02/2022)

Thus, this is my output after I repaired the 3 issues that Mr. Martin pointed:
fig. 3.25, repaired draft (my part), Week 7 (17/02/2022)

After we finish our issues in consistency, we began to start the next step.

(18/02/2022)
On Friday, we agreed to submit each revisions from our parts, so that our leader, Hussain can compile it together and add the audio file. Thus, here's the result:
fig. 3.26, final without audios, Week 7 (18/02/2022)

(19/02/2022)
Waiting for all the members to reacted on the final videos on which or what things needed to change and Mr. Martin's feedback, Hussain asked one of the member to help adding sound effect, I want to try that, so I tried to add the sound effects by downloading ncs (no copyright sound) videos and trimmed it. It was so challenging yet fun for me to do since it's rawly my first experience. So here I go:
fig. 3.27, editing sound effects, Week 7 (19/02/2022)

This is the result from giving the sound effects:
fig. 3.28, with sound effects, Week 7 (20/02/2022)

I was thinking maybe it needs a little touch of background music to make it less boring and bland. So I searched for another audio that will suits well in the background, so here's the final:

FEEDBACKS

Week 3: (Kinetic Typography)
The kinetic typography deserve higher mark, because it's complete. Although each parts are not completely the same, it still shows consistency.

Week 4: (FLIP Presentation)
Great job! Instead of using advantages word, you use simple words that make  people understand, and the presentation is straightforward.

Week 7:
Key points from consultation:
1. Pixelation issues
2. Inconsistency in Illustrations
3. Font Difference

REFLECTION

This project really taught me about the importance of communicating in a group. I noticed some miscommunication happened when the informations are not clearly explained. I also learnt on doing design based project as a team. Lots of ideas - which sometimes lead to disagreement. I really enjoyed working in this group, but I'm a little bit disappointed as it doesn't really feel much like working in a group since the members don't lend help upon each other, and when we divided into parts, we only care and focused on our part; this makes me want to be more open with each other as a team so the workflow will be better. But then, out of that personal opinion of mine, I felt the same struggle as my teammate did although every struggle is not the same for each of us.
