PROGRESSION
GROUPING
Week 1 -
At the first week of the class, we were introduced on the module requirements and module learning outcomes, and how do things work. After explained and being introduced on the things that we can do, we were tasked to form a group which on each group contain not more than 2-3 of students from the same specialization.
The topic that came in mind that time was either Lily Doll or UWB. When I saw the spreadsheet, I noticed that Lily Doll is one of the topic most chosen by the other, so I decided on going to UWB. UWB was divided into 2 team at first, each houses around 7-8 members if I'm not mistaken. I came up with a group of 2 Graphic Design, 2 UI/UX, 2 Entertainment Design at first.
Week 2 -
On the next week, we were asked to divide the group of UWB into 3, with each member 5-6. So I came up with the group that I'm having on until the end. I was grouped with 2 Entertainment Design student, 1 Graphic Design student, and my partner in UI/UX.
IDEATION
Thus, we started to conduct on our contextual research. We found out that there aren't many medical devices sold out there for our target audience. Also, most of them are either too expensive or not really effective.
On the next phase of the project, we were having a meeting to brief what we need to do for our UWB project. We had a presentation meeting that hosted by the UWB where they showcases some of products which later we can choose one.
After several moments thinking and discussing together, we decided to go in collaboration with Adam Horky's product, the watch alert tapping activation with sensor.
DATA GATHERING
*data results are on the drive. Due to privacy, I won't be posting them here.
Week 3 & 4 -
At this moment also, we started to plan and divided on the works based on each of our own specializations. For the ideation part, we need to finalize on our user persona. While me and my UI/UX partner, Esther is working on the user personas, the rest of us are doing the interview questions making.
After we came out with the user personas, we got some feedbacks that our User Persona 1 and 3 are similar, so we need to change it, and so we came up with these people as our User Persona.
As for the interview questions, Eva and Angleyn are working on it, and here're the outcomes:
We decided on visiting on old folk homes for our data research.
Week 5 -
This week, we had an online meeting with the UWB students, to showcase what we have and reconfirm the products functions, etc of the product that later will be our direction in doing the design. We were ready to conduct the interview session with the elderly home. With Adam also attending the ZOOM Meeting, me, Eva, Esther presented our progression which later Adam will know and clarify things whether it’s correct, whether we are in the same direction as him or not.
Week 6 -
After everything is good, we went to bought some watches as our model on conducting the interview. On this week also, we started to conduct on our data gathering phase, we went to an old folks home.
We visited an old folks home to conduct our interview. We were greeted by the kind doctor who is very friendly and insightful for our project. I gained more knowledge about elderly and their daily life struggles. I knew the facts that elderly people with dementia have difficulty doing things, but I just realised that the facts are very real and it changed my mindset to be able to empathise more with them.
We did an interview on one of the elderly there. She was an ex- teacher and she is really nice and friendly.
Week 7 -
From the data gathered on the interview, Mr. Mike gave us feedback that we need more data to fit in all of the user personas. Looking at the people around us in the class, we decided to split up. Eva did an interview with 2 of the other students in the classroom, Esther wrote a data gathering about her mother, while me on the other hand I did an interview with my grandmother.
With that, we finally finished on doing the data gathering phase. As the days flew, we started on the next phase,
DESIGN DIRECTION
Week 8-Week 10-
As we started to hop on the Independent Learning Week, we spent our time on doing our specialization thingy, while waiting for the art direction to be done by our Graphic Design partner, Clay.
So our Graphic Design partner came up with these as our art directions:
As for the feedback, Mr. Mike advised to choose the simple logo since it offers more clean and sophisticated look. So we came up with this logo as our final:
INTERFACE DESIGN
On doing so, me and my UI/UX partner, Esther, we started on planning on what things we need to put on the microsite and the application, as well as the references for the design:
We started on doing the website and app UI design, and we came up with these:
At the moment, I got an idea on what if I make a widget as an easy access to the app, so care taker doesn't really need to open up the app everytime they want to check, so I made these:
Week 11-
Continued on talking about the website, and application design. Started on the application first since I’m afraid we can’t manage the time later if we do the website first. I started continuing on the app together with Esther, Kind of happy with the progress of the interface design, but feel like somehow it lacks something.
From the previous draft we made, we started the first step to create the hi-fidelity design. We did it in the range of 1 week, which means next week we can start to user test on the app. Website designs are still in draft mode since the priority for now is the app design to be user tested.
Week 13-
After giving our all to the application, it's time for us to continue on the microsite. The first image was our previous progression.
We continued it and tried on several designs and we came out with these drafts.
The light one was preferred more than the other since it offers "lighter vibes".
Week 14-
Moving forward we started to finalize things. I was so surprised when we got feedbacks from Mr. Mike and we got a lot of things to do, finalizing, doing the app interface etc.
So first we continued on the app:
While my partner started to check on the flows and fixing the wire, I proceed on doing the onboarding part.
I took the first step to do the dark mode screen by copying the file and changing some elements:
While my partner re-checking, fixing issues and finishing the dark mode I made, I proceed on doing the websites, and we finally completing everything this week (for the UI/UX).
Week 15-
I changed the watch on the websites with the new watches Eva made.
ADVERTISEMENTS
Video Advertisement
On the time me and Esther are doing the app and web designs, Eva started on doing the video advertisements for the care taker as the target audience:
Manual Book
Angelyn was in charge of doing it, so on Week 15, she came up with this:
IG Posts
Clay was in charge of doing it, I did some improvements on it and came up with these as the outputs:
Week 2:
- Completed contextual study
- Need to also include the mechanical component of helping the fallen person to sit up or at least lift up the head rather than just the alert sensors
Week 3:
- Confirmed that they will be no need to design mechanisms or devices that would aid the fallen person to sit up or raise the head.
- Only smart devices (IOT) are required for the product.
- The current presented designs from the UWB students are conceptual and will require research to improve the design features. The co-design of the product between UWB and BDCM will continue till the end of the semester.
Week 4:
- Since the target users are elderly persons, the online survey would not be suitable. Semi-structured interview (1-to-1) is required. Need to identify the elderly persons to be interviewed. (Old folks’ home)
- The interview questions are ready but seem to be too complex for elderly persons.
Week 5:
- Had an online meeting with the UWB partner and queries about the product’s features, functionality and design justifications were assessed by the group.
- Interview questions for the elderly had been completed and ready to conduct the interviews.
- If possible, find ways to demonstrate the prototype design and its features to the elderly during the interviews.
Week 6:
- Will be buying a watch that weighs and looks similar to the prototype design to test on elderly targeted users.
Week 7:
- Art direction board next, website
- Need to facts on 2 other personas who are living alone
- Need to confirm the app
Well 9:
- Art direction started with the logo ‘LL’. Advised to keep it minimalistic for the sophisticated look.
- Need key visuals to test the art direction elements immediately.
- Shown the website features, Infor. Archi. The UI Design needs to be in harmony with the Art Direction designs. Remember the target audience, big images, legible text, and minimalistic design.
- Showed the app design features and some UI references. Need to test the feature with a flowchart or better yet a wireframe prototype as this is the main product that would save lives. The UI design needs to be in sync with the overall art direction.
Week 11:
- Complete Art Direction with key visuals are still in progress.
- The logo design needs to be tried on more typefaces for the logotype
- UI wireframe designs for the Microsite is done.
- Wireframe prototype for the App was shown.
- Showed some video stocks and they look appropriate.
- The Art Direction with key visuals is lacking as the whole list of brand launches and promotions is not thought out yet.
- The logo design is confirmed.
- UI designs for the Microsite are not shown yet.
- UI designs for the prototype for the App are in draft mode and will need to be tested on real users.
- Showed a list of collaterals to be created for the brand launch and promotions.
- UI designs for the Microsite are still slow in progress.
- Showed storyboard design for Youtube videos. Currently, it’s premium and cold in tone. Need to show more of the senior’s lifestyle with warmer tones to create a relatable and friendlier visual style.
OVERALL REFLECTION:
I feel grateful with the team I have, no, not really though. I feel like things can be better when everyone were on the same page and show their care on this module. Eva and Esther have been a remarkable teammates that I'm glad to work with, while the others, where are they? Not being biassed or what but what make group work and individual work different are, we need to communicate and be on the same page. No car can move with only a tire. But overall, I'm glad we finished on everything with 30% power less than supposedly. I'm also glad although the other teammates aren't doing well, I have some of my partners that also can back up things aiding their personal needs.
